Admission to PhD studies is conducted on a competitive basis in accordance with the “Regulations on the Training of Higher Education Applicants for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy and Doctor of Science in Higher Education Institutions”, the Admission Procedure for Higher Education, approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the Admission Rules Zhytomyr Polytechnic state university. 

Applicants for PhD studies are accepted on a competitive basis. Eligible candidates must have obtained a master’s degree (or specialist degree) and have successfully passed the following standardized entrance exams: 

Unified Entrance Exam (EVI) in a foreign language, General Academic Competence Test (TZNK), and Unified Professional Entrance Exam (EVV) (if applicable).

PhD studies are funded through:

• the state budget (within the framework of the state order);
• funds from legal entities or individuals (on a contractual basis, including grants received by the university for scientific research, which provide for the training of applicants for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy). 

Training of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) applicants under the state order is carried out exclusively in full-time postgraduate programs (daytime or evening form of study).

The standard duration for completing the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree is four years, available in either full-time (daytime) or part-time (distance) study modes. Training of Doctor of Philosophy candidates funded by the state order is conducted exclusively in full-time (daytime) postgraduate programs, whereas training of candidates on a contractual basis is conducted exclusively in part-time (distance) programs.

The training of applicants for the degree of PhD studies is conducted according to the educational and scientific program and curriculum, which are approved by the Academic Council of the university for each specialty. The educational and scientific program and curriculum of the postgraduate studies consist of educational and research components.

All PhD students, regardless of the form of study, are required to attend classroom (or distance) sessions and complete all forms of ongoing and final assessments as stipulated by the individual PhD student’s study plan and the university’s educational and scientific PhD program.

Within one month after enrollment, a PhD student’s research topic and individual plan are approved.

Successful completion of the individual study plan by the PhD student is a mandatory requirement for admission to the dissertation defense.

The certification of the Doctor of Philosophy degree candidate is conducted by a one-time specialized Academic Council upon successful completion of the educational and scientific program and the public defense of the dissertation.
